A Decent Plan

...that's actually a pretty good plan. Also, it doesn't seem to involve Google or television at all. I'm surprised, Mister Parker. Quite surprised. Also, is it possible that Stan Lee has been setting this up? I mean, the secret identity thing was a plot thread a few storylines ago. Either he forgot about it and is just now picking it back up, or he was actually planning this. Curious.

TIL: The fact that Peter is actually being a bit pro-active.

Al's TV

There's that dastardly Spider-Imposter pushing over that car again. That burns my biscuits more every time I see it, that does.

Thing I liked? I guess that Al's TV has a pretty good window display!

Nice Looking

Don't be too hard on yourself, Spider-Man, your costume is a marvel of super-hero costume design. It's nice to look at, too. Gosh, it's hard to comment on these when nothing is going on. I can see why Mike P had me come in to do it.

Thing I liked? I like the first panel best!

Secret Identity, Schmecret Identity.

I had forgotten all about the direct-to-DVD and off-Broadway thing. Weren't those from the Krandis storyline? Back in January through March? I think it is. Also, the pair discussing Peter's secret identity in crowded places is starting to become a real sore point with this strip.

The Next box is somewhat promising. By Wednesday, I predict that any promise it has will be broken and we'll be exposed to three months of shoddiness.

TIL: The art is decent. I also think that restaurant is called Ojimbo's. That's sort of neat.

A Happy Day

What? Can it be? We're actually being spared Spider-Man going out sick and attempting to return home before Mary Jane? A happy day indeed! She's the true heroine of this strip.

The Amazing Spider-Plan

01/22:
Peter is especially oblivious in this installment, probably replying on auto-pilot while perusing the paper and sipping his coffee. Meanwhile, Mary Jane is in her cheesecake outfit and gushing about her good review. I guess this is why they have no kids: Mary Jane has to blindside him when he comes home to make him notice her.

01/23:
Mary Jane is understandably concerned at how excited her husband is at the mention of Jimmy Godero, especially considering yesterday's strip. Peter looks quite mischevious in the first panel, as well, probably adding to her apprehension.

01/24:
Why, it's the Amazing Spider-Plan! (badum kish). Other than that, I got nothing.

01/25:
Peter's smug indicates that the last thing he cares about is Mary Jane's play. Poor Mary Jane. I do like her green trench-coat, though. It's snazzy.

01/26:
Uh oh, evil is afoot! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEVIL! Spider-Man should have given Jimmy Godero a signal bracelet, too.

01/27:

Today, we see yesterday's final panel expand into five other panels! My god, but isn't that amazing?

01/28:
You know, in order to keep Godero safe, they could have just put Spider-Man in the truck and left Godero at the prison. Just sayin'.

Keepin' Up the Wall

11/22:Thus Peter goes from embracing his heroic responsibilities to being whiny and paranoid about his wife forgetting about him. This, ladies and gentlemen, is our amazing Spider-Man.

TIL: I'd like to think that plank in panel two is keeping that wall up.

11/23:
That is pretty much the worst outfit for a rising starlet to wear to a talk show appearance. It can't be a big talk show, though, since Peter was seemingly able to waltz right in without any trouble.

TIL: The fact that we were spared a week of Peter trying to get into the studio.

11/24:
Our hero finally meets the Persuader! Only time will tell what becomes of this mythic meeting.

TIL: Holy crap, Mary Jane and Peter have matching shirts. Slightly different colors, but the same style.

11/25:

If Mary Jane was smart, she would use this opportunity to get the heck out of there. Or maybe hit the Persuader over the head with... that board keeping that's keeping the wall up. That could be risky, however, but perhaps preferable to seeing her husband get beaten up?

TIL: The fact that that board is back... that's the last thing I expected.

11/26:
Right now you could kick him in his unmentionables. Unless the Persuader's a eunuch or wearing a cup, that would take him out and keep your secret identity safe. Granted, it's not the classiest thing to do, but in this situation it may be a decent solution.

TIL: That board... it's still there. What's with the background continuity?

Backlog Unloaded

Sorry for not posting. I was moving, and boy howdy, was it ever a terrible experience which still isn't over. Anyhow, here's the backlog:

11/16:
I was totally wrong about this being worth seeing.

TIL: Panel one is pretty neat, though it looks more like an apartment than a stately home.

11/17:
It would be funny if the cops solved the case before Spider-Man, and at the rate Spider-Man is working, it's not out of the question.

TIL: Jonah in panel one.

11/18:
Peter's jacket looks terrible. He should stick with the brown one.

TIL: The final panel, I guess.

11/19:
How on Earth did Simon Krandis get to the position he is today if he develops crushes on rising starlets? Oh, wait, he has a thug. Nice to know they both think with their muscles.

TIL: Imagining what questions Mary Jane was asked to warrant that response.

11/20:
"Put my plan to buy the Daily Bugle on hold, I'm in love!"

This is a terrible plot point.

TIL: Mary Jane looks vaguely like Magica DeSpell from "DuckTales".

The Big Catch-Up, Week Seven: In Which Spider-Man Finds a Heffalump.

Well, it would appear that with this update I am finally caught up. I pray to God that circumstances never let this happen ever again, and I will try my hardest to stay at least a bit updated. Nothing like this, though... never again like this.

10/06:
The fourth panel of this comic would feature Stan Lee mugging the camera and saying, "Buy your Amazing Spider-Man costumes at your local 'Toys 'R' Us', True Believers! EXCELSIOR!"

TIL: I'm going to cheat a bit here and say nothing really stood out enough for me to like it.

10/07:
I thought this had been resolved yesterday. Also, why is his spider-sense going off? There's no danger about. I think poor ol' Stan Lee needs a bit of a break.

TIL: The X-Men reference. It's stupid, but in a charming way.

10/08:
We all know that planes are the last bastion of privacy, so it's no wonder Peter and Mary Jane are talking about their respective secret lives. They're being remarkably subtle about it, though, so that's good.

TIL: Peter using Mary Jane as an armrest in panel one.

10/09:
You'd think it would be a relief for the usually money-starved Parkers to come back to their modest New York apartment and realize that, thanks to Mary Jane's paycheck for "Marvella", they won't have to worry about rent and that sort of thing for a while. Instead, they simply bemoan their situation. I'm beginning to dislike the Parkers.

TIL: Peter's tiny tiny head in panel two.

10/10:
Peter earns some likability points as he expresses displeasure at the thought of leaving the city which has been his home for the better part of thirty years. I like that they're back in New York. It just feels sort of right. I can't shake the feeling that, back in Los Angeles, some c-list villain is setting himself up to be disappointed. He won't be that much trouble, and easily defeated by local law enforcement (with minor aid from the Land Captain), but he'll be wishing he could fight Spider-Man. Poor guy.

TIL: Mentioned above.

10/11:
It's the return of nightgown Mary Jane! Long-time readers may remember that, for several weeks, Mary Jane paraded around in that nightgown. (It's here.) It looks like that won't be repeated here, though, as Mary Jane quickly throws on some actual clothes. Peter remains shirtless, however, presumably for the ladies?

TIL: The promise of Robbie Robertson. Hooray!

10/12:
That was quick. I was half-expecting Peter to traipse around New York for a month before even laying eyes on the Daily Bugle, and another two weeks until he made it to the offices of the Daily Bugle. Thank God this was not the case.

TIL: The fulfillment of the promise of Robbie Robertson.

10/13:
They'll be in for a rude surprise when Spider-Man is back. No one will put two and two together, though. It's not like Robbie doesn't already know Peter is Spider-Man, though. I do have to wonder why Jameson is back, as I was looking forward to some time without Jameson. At least Maria didn't follow him.

TIL: That Maria did not follow Jameson and we're rid of her.

10/14:
I wonder what JJJ's secret mission is. I also wonder why he looks like a mutated chipmunk in the middle panel.

TIL: The fact that Jameson is a jerk. Wait, I don't like that.

10/15:
I hope to God it's the Kingpin. This is something the Kingpin would do, buying out the Daily Bugle. OH GOD I HOPE IT'S THE KINGPIN!

TIL: Potential Kingpin!

With that, folks, we're caught up! Just in time for our one-year anniversary, which is kind of a redundant term! Tune in tomorrow for... well, more of the same.

The Big Catch-Up, Week Two: The Return of Spider-Man

When we left off, Spider-Man's biggest booster was allying herself with his biggest critic. Meanwhile, a super-villain is on the loose with the web-slinger nowhere to be seen. Literally, he hadn't shown up for two weeks. Ah, and a cop may have started down the road to vigilantism. What will happen next? We now return to "The Amazing Spider-Man"!

09/01/2007:
The unholy alliance of Jameson and Lopez is more than enough to get Spider-Man's spider-sense tingling. This is especially notable because the pair are miles away and not even doing anything troublesome yet. Yes, instead of "bordering on precognition", it has evolved into flat-out precognition. Only time will tell if this remains the case.

TIL: Hey, it's Spider-Man!
Today's Lesson: Jonah Jameson + Maria Lopez = TROUBLE

09/02:
The Shocker isn't really that much of a threat, Spider-Man. You've said so yourself. Though, of course, this was before he started accidentally knocking down buildings, so perhaps his threat level has increased. Of course, everyone has forgotten about the bounty on Spider-Man's mask, so we'll see if that plot thread gets resolved.

Also, I think it would be much more likely for both stations to just fire Lopez and Jameson. They can't be that popular.

TIL: We all knew the retirement wouldn't last.
Today's Lesson: The inter-mingling of Maria Lopez and Jonah Jameson is enough to spend Spider-Man into fits.

09/03:
At least Peter's priorities are in the right place, though his attention is bound to gravitate to the Jameson/Lopez thing eventually. You'd think that Mary Jane and Peter would be more tan after spending all that time in the hot Death Valley sun.

TIL: Jameson's facial expression in panel one. Love makes him ham things up for the camera.
Today's Lesson: Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, remember this: Jonah and Maria are watching you through the television set.

09/04:
The third panel here is just like the third panel from August 28th's strip, just flipped and with different (much happier) people.

TIL: Peter's tiny hand in panel one.
Today's Lesson: Peter Parker has the ability to change his facial features.

09/05:
Not to mention the fact that he's currently in Death Valley which is not very close to Los Angeles. Though it would be funny to see Spider-Man bumming around the desert shouting for the Shocker.

TIL: The fact that Peter didn't see the Spider-Man costume in that suitcase, despite the fact that it appears to be the only suitcase they brought with them.
Today's Lesson: See yesterday's lesson. Today, he chooses to look like Quasimodo in panel one.

09/06:
I think panel three should have left the exclamation point out of Peter's thought balloon. In fact, I think that's what Stan Lee intended, only to somehow mess it up somewhere along the way.

TIL: The black-haired girl looks like a grown-up Nancy.
Today's Lesson: Autograph hounds roam California, eagerly waiting for anyone remotely famous to walk by.

09/07:
What if her movie really sucks and her career is over almost before it begins? Or what if Mysterio or someone comes and ruins the movie shoot, causing it to never finish filming? All of these are things you should take into consideration when you live in the world of Spider-Man.

TIL: Mary Jane's ability to sign an autograph without looking. That takes mad skills.
Today's Lesson: See yesterday's lesson.

Day Job

Peter: Jameson is not getting too close for comfort, because no matter how many Spider-Man questions he asks Dara Dorset, she cannot answer them. Dara does not know what Spider-Man's day job is, so you have nothing to worry about.

Jonah's Way

I was hoping to see more of Kurt Kordok today, but I guess I'll settle for the ongoing exploits of Jonah Jameson, Boy Pundit and his arch-nemesis, Maria Lopez... er... I can't think of anything witty to call her. Which is probably what Stan Lee thought when he was writing this strip and had to name Jonah's show. "LA My Way"? Hopefully its theme song is the song "My Way", as sung by Jonah Jameson. He's the self-proclaimed King of All Media, so why not?

I have to say, despite everything, I have a certain amount of admiration for Jonah. No matter how many tell him he's wrong and no matter how man times he's been proven wrong, he stands by his belief that Spider-Man is a threat and/or menace. That takes moxie, my friends.

Proportionate Immaturity of a Spider

Peter, she offered to take you along with her. Sure, you'd be stuck in a trailer all day but at least you'd be with her. Which is what you should be thinking right now.

Updated... FROM THE FUTURE!

While I was adding tags, I realized that the week and a half when I chose to hiatus could not have come at a worst time. So, I've come back to post that which I did not post before!
12/26/2006:Technically, the tentacle was already freed. Just a jumbled mess. You'd think being a doctor would enable him to know this.

12/27/2006:This is not so far from the canonical depiction of Doctor Octopus. All of the man's offensive and defensive power come from his tentacles, and I believe Spider-Man finally beat him in their first encounter with a blow to the jaw.

12/28/2006:You guys are in a building, and you could easily catch him if you tried, Jonah. You won't, though, because if there's no Spider-Man for you to complain about your paper is dead.

12/29/2006:
Jonah looks so sad that the camera was busted. Surely the blow didn't damage the film inside, or anything, considering how I doubt Mary Jane could summon up the physical force required to do such a thing.

12/30/2006:Conniving is not something you can take a picture of. At the very least, it's clearly not what Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus were doing.

12/31/2006:
So the Jameson-Lopez team splits up. It was disgusting and horrible while it lasted.

01/01/2007:Hooray, I guess.

01/02/2007:Jameson is bitter when he's been dumped. Extra-bitter with a side order of WHINE.

01/03/2007:This is pretty much how this always works itself out. Jameson fires Peter, then wants him back, and Peter always wants a raise. You'd think by now he'd be paid better than Jonah himself.

01/04/2007:Ah, this is how Jameson weasels out of this. He just gives Peter a one-time bonus. Fair enough, though.

01/05/2007:I like this development a lot.

01/06/2007:Hopefully Jonah can hire someone who can help him get the photos to New York in a jiffy, through the Internet. The man has trouble with a lens-cap, so a scanner would be a Gordion knot to him.
