This is, barring any unforeseen circumstances, the final post at the Amazing Spider-Blog. This is because I'm moving the whole she-bang over to a new site, the Meekrat Entertainment Group. The reason for this is simple, and is probably as succinct as "I am a psychopath", but I shall elaborate regardless.
As many of you know, I don't just do this blog. I also do the reader-interaction prose site Choose Your Own Blogventure, the web-comic PC/MS, and I always have three or four more projects floating around looking for a home and the time to do them. With all this, plus work and school, I get pretty frazzled. My solution was, as you can see, to put everything on one bloody site. When you go over there, you'll see how things will work, and I've worked diligently to make sure there are as few hiccups as possible.
What I'm saying is that, though this specific blog will be ended, but its content and spirit will have gone to the new site. No, I am not stopping commenting on the strip. Yes, there will be the new ones up every day as they have been for the past two years (give or take the odd hiatus). I do appreciate all your comments, however. Thank you kindly for them.
Hope to see you over there, and here's hoping the second two years of Amazing Spider-Blogging has fewer mishaps than the first two!

Panel of the Week: Unsurprising Victor
It's time once again for the panel of the week! Last week, we didn't have much, I'm sorry to say. This week, we have several contenders for the dubious honor of being the panel of the week! Will it be the Spider-Man debut of television's Paul Shaffer?

(#4 - 10/09/2008)
Perhaps the beginning of Peter Parker's descent into madness?
(#3 - 10/06/2008)
Or another installment in Peter's shifting attitude towards that whole secret identity thing?
(#2 - 10/10/2008)
No. It is none of those. Instead, it's Maria Lopez, naked in a tub again.
(#1 - 10/05/2008)
Someone here is dropping the ball on the whole panel of the week thing, and it's either me or the people who draw this strip. I'm willing to pin this on them, really.

Land Captain's Not Too Happy

I'm not sure what to think of you people anymore, honestly. I guess Mike P was right, though, and showing scantily clad ladies brings in the traffic. Apologies to anyone out there who doesn't like that sort of thing, but since no one complained, I guess it's all right with all of you.
This week, though, I thought we'd steer away from the gratuitous hit-bringing and ask a somewhat serious question. What do we call this fellow:

Spider-Impersonator (it's his current tag)
Ant-Man (though I think this fellow, this fellow, and this fellow might all be a bit up-in-arms about that)
Pseudo-Spider (my personal favorite)
I know what you people are capable of now, so I expect a pretty decent turn-out. And again, show some of that poll-taking love to Choose Your Own Blogventure, please. Until next week, Spider-Buddies.
Blech

Seriously, though, you go on and on about secret identities and then you pull something like this. You're begging for your family to get shot, aren't you?

Panel of the Week 09/28/2008
There's really no point in me doing a countdown for this panel of the week, as there was really only one thing that could win once it showed up on the scene. This is because I'm shameless and recognize that Maria Lopez, naked in a tub, could potentially bring in more hits. Which is why many of the posts, from this point forward, will include the words "Maria Lopez naked in a tub". I need the hits, people. Well, here's the panel:
Here's hoping next week has a good contender for the panel of the week, otherwise it'll be week two of Maria Lopez. Naked. In a tub.

Also, my god, the last thing I was expecting to see today was Maria Lopez naked in a tub. Jameson would probably have a lot more to say than "!" if he knew.

Poll of the Week: Mary Jane Vs. Maria Lopez

What's that?
I don't think...
I don't want to...
Mike P says he understands where I'm coming from, and that doing a poll about that is about the last thing he'd do, but sometimes you need that extra draw on the Internet to bring in the hits. So which of the strip's two most prominent ladies do you like more, Mary Jane...

You offer your apologies in advance. Well, that's swell. That's just swell. You know what? I hope you lose readers because of this, and I'm thinking of washing my hands of this whole poll of the week thing if you keep pulling shenanigans like this. Consider this strike one, Mike P. You're on notice.

Poll of the Week: Site Layout

Panel of the Week 09/21/2008
It's time again for the panel of the week! Regrettably, Spider-Man himself made a poor showing this week. He showed up a few times whining, which is really a big let-down. Instead, we got his current antagonists. Luckily, they're somewhat more interesting than pasty white Simon Krandis or the Vulture, Blackie "The Vulture used to be competent when he was Adrian Toomes" Drago. For example, here's the Spider-Impersonator, Spider-Imposter, Spider-Thug, whatever you want to call him, really. He's confused about it, too:
(#3 - 09/25/2008)
And then there's Big-Time. Our current villain is basically a more management-oriented version of DC Comic's Clock King, perhaps with a bit of "Heroes" Sylar thrown in for no real reason at all. I say this because Sylar used to be a watchmaker or watchfixer or something like that. Unlike Clock King (who was either a victim of malpractice or bad advice depending on which version of the character you're going with) or Sylar (who wants them powers), Big-Time has a simpler motivation:

(#2 - 09/26/2008)
Big-Time was innocent of any crime, though, right? I mean, yes, we'd all be mad if someone sent us to prison but if we served our time we might even let it go and be glad to be reformed. So perhaps Big-Time is actually innocent, and is angry at being sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit?

(#1 - 09/27/2008)
I'm glad that's been cleared up. That could have been as bad as that whole debate over whether or not Spider-Man was an elephant. Thanks for setting the record straight.

Guilty as Sin

Also, the fact that he's served his prison sentence means that, unlike many villains, Big-Time is honestly and truly reformed. Not only that, but he has made himself a new life as some sort of clock shop person. So his war against Spider-Man goes from "typical thing villain does" to "potentially ending this new way of life for him, but he doesn't seem to really care or get that." He doesn't seem to realize that masterminding these crimes is a good way to get sent back to jail.
Big-Time: More complexity than anyone was ever expecting from this strip.
TIL: I already said the thing I liked, in the actual meat of this post. I'm not going to say it again, as it would be redundant.

Panel of the Week 09/14/2008
With a surprising rise in quality comes a surprising surplus of panels of the week. Five, to be exact.
#5 - 09/20/2008
As you can see, our first panel features the debut of what is perhaps the sensational character find of 2008: Big-Time. Unlike other men in suits we've had, who are usually pretty generic, Big-Time has a gimmick. This rises him out of generic man-in-suit territory and puts him into generic super-villain territory. Which is a big step, let me tell you.
#4 - 09/17/2008
I chose this one because I like the facial expressions in it. Look at the sneer on that burly thug. Oh, and the old lady looks like she's trying to cast a spell. That would have been terrific if she had cast a spell.
#3 - 09/15/2008
I like the pasty white officer's exclamation of "WHA!" and Spider-Man's wisecrack. Little did I know how much wisecracking we'd get as the week went on.
#2 - 09/16/2008
There are several things that sort of define Spider-Man as a character, and two of them are angst and web-slinging. However, they're such depressing things to define someone by. Well, the angst bit is. Not the web-slinging. So, as you can see, this would pretty much sum up the character (as we had seen him in the strip for the past two years or so) to a "T". Except then we got the Panel of the Week...
#1 - 09/18/2008
Somewhat interesting art? Spider-Man delivering some justice while hanging from a web and wisecracking? The justice being done on a friendly, neighborhood level? Why, this is a much better way to show Spider-Man!
There you have it, folks. With the introduction of Big-Time, we can only guess that he's going to be involved in next week's Panel of the Week.

Poll of the Week

...
....
.....
What? He chose that one?
Well, I guess we can count our blessing that he didn't send me the one with negative exposure. I'll get that up after I give you the poll for this week! What to ask, what to ask... ah, I know! Do you think the strip's gotten better over the past week? I'll try to think of something better next week, Spider-Buddies. Until next time!
Big-Time: Wearing a Clock
First off, some meta-stuff: new poll of the week and Panel of the Week up later today. Now, on with the actual post!
Today, we get clarification that the classic snarky Spider-Man is not the same Spider-Man who went to go see Big-Time. There was some worry about that, yes. Spider-Man is also being rather cocky today, something else that's rather classic. Also, acrobatic, which is whiz-bang crackerjack.
We also see that Big-Time is, in fact, wearing a watch on a chain around his neck. Big-Time is fantastic, and while I'll no doubt regret saying this as the weeks drag by, I look forward to spending this time with him.
TIL: Big-Time. He may be this year's break-out character.

Introducing Big-Time

It's some random guy with a mustache and bad hair. This follows the pattern of having a super-villain in the strip, followed by some random crime boss.
However, we are also introduced to a guy- nay, a MAN- named Big-Time. In two panels, we already know this:
1) He expects punctuality from his lackeys
2) He uses the word lackeys
3) He actually looks like a pretty smooth sort of guy
4) He operates from a place filled with clocks.
If that chain around his neck is a watch, then it's safe to say that this fellow is pretty much a more management-oriented version of DC's Clock King. The original one. This one. (That second link is not Land Captain approved.) I might actually like Big-Time.
TIL: Perhaps Big-Time. Only TIME will tell. (Pun was not intended, then spotted, and time was put in all-caps to emphasize the unintended pun.)
